Recovering Republican

Obama For America

Rick Perry & N.A.R.

Rick Perry and NAR

Rick Perry drank the Kool Aid

America would become a theocracy under Rick Perry.

Rick Perry appears to be an astute politician, the problem is, his involvement with The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). To say that their ideology is far right is an understatement. They are so far right they make the Tea Party look liberal. NAR is under the belief that if they can convert enough Jews to Christianity they can expedite the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The founding fathers were right to call for separation of church and state. It appears they want to bring America into a right-wing, evangelical theocracy. It’s amazing that most of the American electorate is not aware of Rick Perry’s involvement in this underground, yet powerful movement. As the Republican field gets ready to intensify the battle for their parties nomination, this revelation will more than likely knock Rick Perry out of the race.

NAR has the belief that somehow Democrats are Satan worshipers because of their tolerance to gays. And that Oprah Winfrey is the Anti-Christ? Really? Are you beginning to see how dangerous this group is? They’ve even gone as far to recruit Black pastors to preach to their congregations about the evils of the Democratic party! Absolutely amazing, isn’t it? They absolutely frown on any form of tolerance.

They promote “spiritual warfare” being fought for the souls of those who want to go up in the “rapture.” They believe in fighting evil “principalities” that will wage war in the end times. NAR has a cadre of Messianic Jews, who have converted to Christianity to proselytize Jews and convert them. According to NAR the beast is among us and will fight to defeat and repel the second coming of Jesus in the end times.

Latinos and Immigration

Brian Sandoval will not help Latinos

Brian Sandoval doesn't have Latino interests at heart!

Is the GOP using Latino Politicians as a shill?

As we get closer to the election of 2012, Republicans have awoken suddenly to realize that they really need the Latino vote! The Republicans never fail to amaze. they’ve kicked, browbeat and insulted the Latino electorate and now are looking for their support. Really? It may be a little too late, even if there may be some in the Latino community who may set out the 2012 election because of the Democrats failure to address immigration reform.

There’s been a lot of talk about the recent Republican effort to win over Latino voting support. While it may be admirable for the GOP to make an attempt to reach out to Latinos during a presidential election year, I’m afraid that their efforts will be fruitless until they reverse the actions of their dismal record regarding last December’s 2010 dream act vote. It takes a lot of nerve to diss and entire electorate, and then turn around and ask for their support; that takes the proverbial “cojones.”

The dream act would’ve helped thousands of young Latinos realize the American dream by getting a good education. This writer sees it as a win-win. Helping young people who ended up in America through no fault of their own, gaining higher education and securing their place in productive society. Who would be against that? The Republicans that’s who!

Heritage or Hate?

Confederate flag symbol of hate?

Heritage or Hate?

There is no other icon in America that evokes as much emotion and controversy as the Confederate flag. We fought a civil war over it, we fight a cultural war over it to this day. To some, it’s a symbol of heritage, to others it’s a symbol of hate.

To this day, several Southern states conspicuously show the stars and bars in their state flag. What’s puzzling is, why would you want to celebrate a war that you lost? most politicians from the south and the north as well are very reluctant to offer their opinion publicly about the Confederate flag. If this was just an innocent symbol of heritage, then why would you go mum and not discuss it publicly?

Michele Bachmann – GOP Debate

"Michele Bachmann Lunatic Fringe"

Michele Bachmann is Scary!

Michele Bachmann did it again! She managed to steal all the attention from the other GOP candidates. And rightly so, while most of us who are serious and sane don’t expect her to get the eventual GOP nomination, her circus of a candidacy is entertaining to say the least.

On a serious note, Michele Bachmann should scare anyone who is in their right mind. Joe Scarborough, from MS NBC’s Morning Joe didn’t hold his tongue when he gave his opinion of Michele Bachmann’s candidacy. I don’t always agree with Mr. Scarborough however, I must say, he got it right this time!

There are a lot of problems with Michele Bachmann’s candidacy. first and foremost, her loose interpretation of historical facts as well as critical issues facing the American electorate. Her cozy, romanticized and sanitary revisionism of American slavery is especially troubling. let’s not forget her husband, Marcus Bachmann and his controversial “counseling clinic.”

Michele Bachmann’s candidacy for the White House is wrong on so many different levels. She’s the head of the tea party caucus that held Congress hostage during the debt ceiling crisis. She has no shame in her game whatsoever. She was willing to allow the United States economy to go over a cliff, because of her extreme right-wing, lunatic fringe beliefs.

Summers Eve Racist Commercial

Commercials in American culture are wildly popular and very creative. However, when the commercial goes south, as they often do, the results can be disastrous. Case in point, the recent commercial by Summer’s Eve the maker of feminine hygiene products.

Recently, Summers Eve took a stab at marketing to African-American and Latina women. Needless to say, this advertising campaign went south, no pun intended. It was bad enough that they were hands which posed as talking vaginas. Then sprinkle a little blatant stereotype to the mix, and it was a recipe for disaster. The Latina vagina talked about giving birth to many children and losing the tacky leopard thong.

Obama and US Credit Downgrade

S&P credit downgrade will hurt US

Obama's re-election hurt by credit downgrade

This past week when Congress finally agreed to raise the debt ceiling, we thought our problems were over. But in a surprise move yesterday, Standard & Poor’s downgraded the United States credit rating from AAA to AA plus. Many of us are wondering how foreboding this will be for the future of the US economy.

The downgrade in the US credit rating is the financial equivalent of the short, fat, bald, masked guy in those free score.com commercials. In announcing the downgrade, Standard & Poor’s cited the difficulties of bridging the gulf between the political parties over reducing the deficit, it indicated they wanted even more spending cuts from Congress — join the misguided consensus that completely misses the fact that economic growth is the most powerful weapon against the deficit. The White House challenged Standard & Poor’s analysis, claiming it was off by Chileans of dollars. Maybe the ratings agency was using the same math ahead would help create the fiscal crisis we are still struggling to get out of by awarding AAA ratings to trillions of dollars in subprime mortgages repackaged as securities.

Gabrielle Giffords Vote

Gabrielle Giffords is humble servant

Gabrielle Giffords is a good example

This past week when Congress passed raising the debt limit, it was a triumphant time for the American people. The surprise appearance by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was a moment that both Congress and the American people needed. In her brief appearance before Congress to cast her vote in favor of raising the debt limit, she gave both houses of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike a lesson in civility. Her strength and resolve to make the trip to Washington to cast her vote spoke volumes to all Americans. Congresswoman Giffords is a charming and humble public servant. The rest of Congress could learn a lesson from Gabrielle Giffords. Amid much rancor and acrimony, Gabrielle Giffords’ presence seemed to help calm the divide between those factions feuding over the debt limit increase.

Black and Latino in the Americas

Dr. Henry Louis Gates

Dr. Henry Louis Gates-Black in Latin American

Black in Latin America – Most Americans can’t conceive of black and Latino being the same thing. Most African-Americans can’t conceive of slavery existing anywhere else other than the United States. In both cases, were all wrong. The slave trade worldwide was a massive undertaking. When most Americans think of slavery, we think of the obvious and long-lasting effects of slavery in the United States and relationships between the races. The truth is that the majority of slaves during the transatlantic slave trade ended up south of America’s borders, the Caribbean and all throughout South America.

Between 1502 in 1866 12.5 million African slaves were brought to the Americas. Of that number, only 450,000 were brought to the United States. The rest were scattered throughout the Caribbean and other parts of Latin America and the diaspora that has become the legacy of that tragic commerce. The remaining slaves were brought to other parts of Latin America;4.8 million were brought to Brazil alone. In fact, Brazil is home to the largest black population in the entire world, second only to the African continent. Today 120 million people of African descent live in Latin America.

Dr. Henry Louis Gates, the Harvard professor who became famous for his confrontation with a local policeman when trying to break into his own home has conducted extensive research on being black in Latin America. Dr. Gates travels have taken him to Brazil, Peru, Cuba and the Dominican Republic; conducting his research and writing his book, Black in Latin America.

Latinos Obama and GOP

Cecilia Munoz

Cecilia Munoz, Dir Inter-Govt Affairs - White House

The 2012 election will be interesting indeed. With so much going on in the country and in the Congress at this point; where do we have time to talk about immigration? When the 2012 campaign ramps up into full gear, there are a few unresolved issues that will surface to the fore as things get going. Pres. Obama will have his hands full. There’s the nagging issue of what to do about immigration and how to appease Latino voters.

The Latino electorate does not trust Republicans and are frustrated with president Obama. In recent weeks president Obama made a trip which turns out to be a campaign stop in Puerto Rico. He’s the first president since Pres. Kennedy to visit the island. He was greeted with much fanfare and exuberance as the partisan Puerto Rican crowd showed President Obama affection and approval.
